Pros

Experience to move on to other jobs.

Cons

Overworked staff (especially in the Q4), low pay, employees without the proper science background, unpredictable hours, little room for vertical career growth, internal politics and people work to maintain job security and Ashland isn't a great place to live. The town has little to offer.

I worked at WIL Research Laboratories full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Fairly flexible with time off and stepping out to run errands. There is significant scientific knowledge opportunities.

    Cons

The leadership at WIL (I use the term "leadership" here loosely) is awful. I have never been at a company that just absolutely refused to create and support a winning culture. Performance was not measured by achievements but rather by how much time you were there that day. For instance, it was not atypical to come to work at 8:00am and leave at 6:00pm. That's 10 hours. But if supervisory staff saw you leaving, it was often wondered why you were leaving so early. This is just incredible garbage and absolute ignorance. There is absolutely no work/life balance. Imagine having a family and be doing things together on Saturday morning and getting a call from your supervisor that you need to come in today because a client is very unhappy and this is so absolutely pressing. I also love the lack of foresight by management with the unrealistic promises to clients. Why would they care? They're not the ones who are going to be coming in extra at night and working all weekend. The pay is also very low via industry standards and it's also pretty sad when you go out on other interviews and they know the reputation for a sweat shop that WIL has developed for itself. The environment is very bitter and very negative and you will not feel as though you can grow at this place. You will be forced to work, or at least be there for many hours with very little compensation and no rewards from your supervisory staff. You will not be appreciated. You will have management overpromise, knowingly or ignorantly, and YOU will be the one who pays by working tons of overtime and giving up your weekends. And if you don't, you will be called in to have "a talk." You can't really win and get a good review so forget getting promoted and definitely forget getting a raise. A raise? LOL! Do not work there and if you currently do, get out ASAP.
