Pros

The people are all intelligent, driven and committed to their jobs and the station. They worked to improve my reporting and showed me how to do reporting from the ground up.

Cons

The hours can be tough but that's the nature of the business. Unless you try to find opportunities in the station to work with people you will spend a lot of time at the assignment desk.

Advice to Management

Keep using the internship program to inspire new students to do reporting. Your reporters and anchors are great mentors for interns and being out in the field is the best way to learn.

    I worked at WJLA-TV full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Tremendous opportunities to learn new skills. Must be able to handle intense, pressured work periods and then down times throughout the day. Often exciting and action-packed.

    Cons

Working in television is very stressful by nature, so you have to be pretty tough to endure a trial-by-fire atmosphere. Working with different departments can be difficult depending on the people. For example, some people are union and some not. Some people are very aggressive, some are more calm and polite. Mostly though, people don't speak in a very civilized way because they are so pressured to produce a live news broadcast in a short amount of time. This stress makes you bond with your coworkers, like you went through a war together and will always be friends.

    Advice to Management

Try not to insult your employees.
