Wachovia – “Good Company, with plenty of opportunity to move up and be respected if you have the relevant certification.”

Pros

As a contractor who is getting dismal pay with no benefits, I will say that Wachovia is a great company. I think it helps to have a certification (i.e. CPA, CFA) as it will only ensure you move up with the company (as this is probably the case with any company you work for). Otherwise, you have nothing to bank on except experience. People where I work are laid back and really value work-life balance. Again, these are just things I am able to gather as a contractor who has worked there for only a few months but I would recommend it to someone who has the CPA or CFA certification and is looking to try out the financial services industry. Wachovia will be a great start.

Cons

There are really loading up on contractors these days so they may not be looking to fill any perm positions (that is, of course, unless you have very impressive qualifications and have some professsional certification with the right amount of experience and make an impact right away.)

I have not made my own assessment on leadership at Wachovia so I cannot really offer any substantial advice right now.
