I worked at Wachovia

Pros

For the most part a fantastic group of people that came from World Savings in a merger.
Great World Savings lending products for the consumer. One could feel proud of the of the way the World Savings group did business. Enjoyed a wonderful relationship with senior management.

Cons

Wachovia senior management had no clue how how to run a successful lending operation. They took a well run, profitable operation (World Savings) and within 2 years of the merger were out of business.

World Savings was top heavy with low and mid managers. Some of these never put in a full days worth of work, but loved to preach to others how hard they needed to work.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

The vast majority of managers pay should be based upon productivity in the form of stock options and bonus. No more ridicules salaries for non-performance. You should work as hard or harder that you hardest working staff.

I have been working at Wachovia

    Pros

Paid time off and benefits, with the exception of the company stopping pensions since Wellsfargo takeover. Better than unemployment.

    Cons

No communication between manegment and subordinates, low pay for expectations, poor incentive program, unqualified management, promotions based on who you know as opposed to qualifications for the job..You must be a Wachovia/Wellsfargo cheerleader with no opinion of your own to get ahead.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at your employees as assets instead of liabilities, stop thinking only of your own pockets Try improving your own management skills before you try to micro manage your employees. Lose the attitude " your lucky you have a job". Stop managing by fear.

I have been working at Wachovia

    Pros

If you have good coworkers that you get along with well as well as a pretty good customer base makes it at least enjoyable.

    Cons

Very micromanaged not as easy to move up in the company as your lead to believe.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is not enough appreciation towards tellers. They are treated as the expendable force, though are imperative to the banks success. It's difficult to exude superior customer service when upper management is so negative and quick to blow you off.
