Pros

The dogs are great. Communication is open and the boss always has her door open. Everybody has fun while working.

Cons

Expected to work weekends and holidays. Watching dogs can be boring. It can be hard work: there's lots of sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, picking up poop.

Advice to Management

You've got to be the one's cheerleading everybody, all day long. Sometimes management gets low on energy and look like they don't want to be there.

    Pros

It's a fun job if you enjoy working with dogs and is a good place to gain experience working with them. I really liked the team of people I worked with and they were very flexible with my hours.

    Cons

Feels corporate, not a small business. They focus too much on making money instead of the dogs and employees. Too many experienced workers and was short staffed too often. Always having to pick up the slack from other people.

    Advice to Management

Hire people who actually have experience with dogs not anyone who applies for the job, especially not in all day play. Focus more on the back of the house not the image of the company.

    Pros

    - Working with animals, some friendly coworkers/staff
    - Fun events
    - Challenges and rewards in providing great customer service and having happy pets and clients

    Cons

    - Hard/gross work for little pay
    - Hours not guaranteed at part-time/managers play favorites
    - Working weekends and holidays
    - Short notice/changes and adjustments to schedule without notice
    - Company too focused on bottom line
    - Little to no regard for employee well-being, failure to comply with some labor/break laws (working too long a shift without break)
    - High employee turnover
    - Treated as disposable (even when working hard), doesn't matter if you quit/get fired, they are always hiring new staff
    - Unpredictable nature of animal behavior
    - frequent work-related injuries/stress

    Advice to Management

    - Invest more time in creating work schedule and understanding the needs/concerns of employees
    - Take time to properly train new staff (don't expect people who started a month ago to fully train new hires)
    - Update procedures and protocols to reflect changes and need of upkeep within the facilities and properly train staff to handle situations
