I have been working at WalMart Canada part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Opportunities to work in different positions, different departments, to learn different things.
An inclusive and respectful work culture.
Work for a worldwide multi-cultural corporation that sells many types of merchandise.
Perks such as occasional treats, Fun Fridays, employee discounts.

    Cons

Hours are not always consistent, the wages not necessarily "a living wage".
Work can be dangerous, hazardous, unpleasant.
Management is not always respectful of others.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure more secure hours, rates of pay.
Management should be more respectful of staff, especially in coaching or stressful situations.
Ensure that managers and staff are respectful, polite, competent.

I worked at WalMart Canada full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

opportunities galore, Sam Walton story inspirational, respect for work/life balance (at my stores anyway) Can be great buy-in from associates/managers with profit sharing - if your store is qualifying. Great things to learn from long term associates and there are lots of them. Great participation in green initiatives - for a big company....sometimes the clout of a big company can matter and make a difference. The cheer is not that bad, and can be downright fun.

    Cons

if you start low you stay low salary/wage wise. Still some very un-inspirational managers in the business. A little too much waste for most people's personal taste...all in the name of "fear of litigation" so the hungry and less privileged lose.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you lose great people when you stick to rules like - not promotable if you...eg: won't move, won't sign on to permanant overnight etc
    Not enough mentoring

    Neutral Outlook
