Company as a whole, fabulous to work for... individual stores are only as strong as their management team, and employees

I worked at WalMart Canada full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Walmart Canada has a strong plan to make things work is a smooth manner. Fantastic benefits, and industry standard hourly wages. They work hard to keep their staff happy and employed, and allow feedback on things that are working and not working for the staff.

Cons

If the management team isn't strong enough, the staff can walk all over them, causing the whole store to suffer, particularly the strong staff members who love the company and how it's supposed to run. Good staff will become discouraged and quit after having to constantly clean up after, and do other jobs that are supposed to be done by others. Walmart Canada's three strike rule can cause bad employees to be kept too long.

Advice to Management

Be strong and fair to your employees. Even though generation x is handled differently than others, they should still be held accountable for the job they are expected to do.

I have been working at WalMart Canada part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Opportunities to work in different positions, different departments, to learn different things. An inclusive and respectful work culture. Work for a worldwide multi-cultural corporation that sells many types of merchandise. Perks such as occasional treats, Fun Fridays, employee discounts.

    Cons

Hours are not always consistent, the wages not necessarily "a living wage". Work can be dangerous, hazardous, unpleasant. Management is not always respectful of others.

    Advice to Management

Ensure more secure hours, rates of pay. Management should be more respectful of staff, especially in coaching or stressful situations. Ensure that managers and staff are respectful, polite, competent.
