I have been working at WalMart Canada

Pros

the work i do i like i have always liked fashion, there is many dept for everyone, a large selection on most items

Cons

its disgusting how much product is thrown out hundreds of thousands of dollars in clothing and ect food understandable when expired, i do not believe it is family oriented anymore all we are is a number in a line up, the open door policy is crap you talk to an assistant or manager and the whole freaking store knows, the pay is crap why work at walmart for minimum wage when i can go to mcdonalds and make 17$ starting wage, i recently got pregnant and i have a alot of health issues as it is but it was my familys choice to have another choice and the manager asked me what the hell i was thinking and i was stupid for getting into it, im only staying there till the baby is born then i am done! one more thing the sexism is ridiculous

    Pros

Opportunities to work in different positions, different departments, to learn different things. An inclusive and respectful work culture. Work for a worldwide multi-cultural corporation that sells many types of merchandise. Perks such as occasional treats, Fun Fridays, employee discounts.

    Cons

Hours are not always consistent, the wages not necessarily "a living wage". Work can be dangerous, hazardous, unpleasant. Management is not always respectful of others.

    Advice to Management

Ensure more secure hours, rates of pay. Management should be more respectful of staff, especially in coaching or stressful situations. Ensure that managers and staff are respectful, polite, competent.

    Pros

10% discount including prepaid phone cards and prescriptions

    Cons

Strongly discouraged from taking your 15 minute breaks Non-existant training for the position, you're just supposed to figure it out as you go Not enough full time employees so forced 12 hour shifts are frequent Each pharmacist has different preferences for how they want the pharmacy assistant to do the job Not a very professional environment

    Advice to Management

Managers need to have a training manual, standard way of doing the job
