Pros

Was a great starting salary, but now they are doing recon and everyones pay is getting cut 33%+.

Cons

Work life balance, expect to work every day, holiday, night; horrible managers dependant on store; expect to move around a lot if you are a manager; no more overnight managers.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Walgreens is still better to work for than CVS, albeit only marginally so. For entry level positions, being a clerk in any department is WAY better than standing over a fry hopper at McDonalds (which is not bad compared to other fast food chains)

    Cons

"Fair scheduling" does not allow for those who prefer to work mornings only or nights only. It also makes assistant managers often do turnaround shifts. Recent and ongoing decisions are making pay lower through position pay caps, reclassification of hourly assistants will result in a pay cut in about a year, and advancement will be tough. Walgreens is working on a flexible front end payroll budgeting plan, and they are hoping for high attrition to get salaries down.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Go back to what was working. Five years ago, the mantra was: "We are better because we have the staff to help customers." That has disappeared. Yes, some locations needed their payroll reined in a bit, but across-the-board reductions are making it difficult to customers to distinguish us from the competition. We have been copying CVS's model for two years now, complete with this year's rollout of an "also ran" loyalty rewards program.
