Pay is excellent, except there seems to be little room to move up

I worked at Walgreens part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pays well, extremely flexible with scheduling, lots of open positions on the lower end of the poll (great for High school students, and retired elderly). Amazing job if you are currently in school.

    Cons

Little room to move up in promotion (as with any retail like environment, there are more of the "lower" positions than there are positions of management), a lot of the stores have cut out the management training program for a "store team lead" position (aka, one does managerial duties for a low pay in hopes that they will one day make manager), each store only gets a certain amount of hours per month so if you need to work full time, it may or may not happen depending on how many employees already work at that particular store, stressful and busy if you aren't cut out for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In my experience, some of the busiest stores recieved the least hours, compared to less busy stores. It was very difficult working with what seemed to be short-staffed because there just weren't enough hours to go around. I think district managers should be required to sit at stores in their district once a week to really know what's going on before making decisions that will affect the stores. In my opinion, there was a huge disconnection between demands from the district managers and what the store workers believed would work best for their store, based on their everyday experience. As a worker on the "lower" end of the pole, we rarely (if ever) got word of changes, until it was time to make those changes. So, I think the district managers could definitely develope better relationships with the "lower" employees, versus just the store managers and above. The best advice comes from those who are actually doing the "nitty gritty" of the job.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, retirement program is wonderful and the discount in store is nice! Depending on where you work, your co-workers can be wonderful! Have made many life-long friends.

    Cons

Expect to work 60 hours per week November and December with no days off. Even though you may be a "manager" be prepared to get your hands dirty and do hard physical work. If you are looking for an office job, this is not the one for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sometimes, the customer is wrong, and you cannot please every single customer in the general public.
