Former Employee - Beauty Advisor in Portland, ME

I worked at Walgreens part-time (less than a year)

Pros

Strong emphasis on excellent customer service. Many hours spent organizing the products, creating new displays and assisting customers in finding the products they are looking for. Positive atmosphere throughout the Photo, Beauty, Pharmacy, managerial and sales clerks.Co-workers cared about their jobs and prided themselves on working together to run one of the tidiest, best-run stores in the state. Care very much about the health of the employees as well as the customers.

Cons

Not a very predictable position. Finding items that customers had hidden around the store, creating new displays, putting items on clearance, and anything else the manager can think needs to be done. Beauty advisors tasked with cleaning the bathrooms, photo department tasked with emptying the outdoor trash bins. Not pleasant, but doing it daily prevented either task from being too foul.

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Fantastic employees. Usually positive atmosphere. Breaks are always guaranteed. Good benefits for employees. Very flexible on scheaduling. Close to home.

    Cons

Pay. What is expected for minimum wage. Too many corporate rules on what customer verbiage required to repeat. No bonus. No raise over .25 per hour yearly up to cap of 10.00 per hour. Clientel expects concierge service many times and not enough workers available to do what corporate encourages as extra ordinary care. Managers, if not store manager or assistant manager are considered "team lead" and are now paid barely more than new hire cashiers with the same expectations as the managers achieve. While health insurance is low for employees it is very high for dependents.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher pay for employees that actually put forth effort and concern for customers. Right now there is the same pay for all employees whether they work or not. Put more staff in place to achieve customer satisfaction and less required verbiage to repeat constantly. Less talk, more employees to service customers to achieve satisfaction survey results.

Current Employee - Shift Lead in Saint Louis, MO

I have been working at Walgreens full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Ability to move anywhere in country if need be. Promotion "available" if you're a good employee, but only at certain times of the year. Job security as long as you're not a complete moron, don't steal or sexually harass someone.

    Cons

Pay stinks. Hours stink. You can only be promoted at certain times of the year. This is determined by region and not when you are worthy, ready or eligible. The amount of work and responsibility do not equate to the starting manager (shift lead) salary, which could be as low as $10.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your managers what they're worth and promote them when they are ready. Actually practice your bs cultural beliefs you ram down the employees throats.
