I have been working at Walmart

Pros

Pay for management is okay. I enjoyed associates and customers at my location. Training was done very well. Very impressed with the individual that ran training for managers.

Cons

Store management and up are condescending. No matter how hard you work or how much your associates respect you, you will always have store management to bring you down. Policies are that of a penitentiary. Loosen up people.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Loosen up people. Don't treat your employees like second class.

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

    Its a paycheck
The overnight time goes well with college during the day
Some managers know what they're doing
Easy to get time off--- this is the best perk
Very easy to call in sick, but you only get a few sick days per 6 months

    Cons

In a company of over 2 million employees you are just a number
    Some managers are not competent
You'll have to wait a year before you get any chance for a payraise
No benefits for many months when you first start working
The company is much more disorganized than I would have thought..... freight comes off the trucks in very mixed pallets, sometimes trucks will show up with only one pallet of freight(gas is $3.00 a gallon right?), sometimes the inventory management system will send way to much freight and the backroom will get very jammed and cluttered

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize that the competition does offer better employment opportunities and most of your associates realize this. That is why 70% of your new hourly associates quit within the first year.

    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

If your lucky enough to work with supportive and helpful coworkers you will find the job bare-able. Six years ago the company wasn't so bad but has gotten progressively worse.

    Cons

As a company the work conditions have gotten worse along with the recognition. The upper management have a great role in the store moral however executives pile on the pressure and hence associates feel the pressures. More work, less money. Recognition used to be a big part of the company belief which included merit raises (raises for being exceptional in the work you do) nowadays ever penny they can save and make your work harder is their motto.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should re-evaluate their current operations as employees are not factory workers but people. It seems like they're promoting anyone even remotely interested in make a few extra bucks and not for their leadership abilities or people skills. Recognizing employees that actually put effort in their work would be a start!
