Current Employee - Area Manager in Palestine, TX
Current Employee - Area Manager in Palestine, TX

I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Competitive Wages
Decent work schedule but is a hassle to ask for time off

Cons

Benefits are getting worse every year
Assistant General Manager and General Manager treat their management staff terrible. They only care about their pay check.
Over 20 managers have left th dc in the last year due to their poor leadership and being crooked.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the General Manager, Assistant General Manager and HR Manager. Bring some one in that cares about their people. The union should be licking there lips to get into this dc.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

It's a job that pays you. It's hard to get fired,. You can talk to any level of managment via "open door".

    Cons

Bad pager! minimum hour a week 45, when on pager that number can jump to 80 hours quickly. You get three weeks vacation after 7 years and 4 weeks at 15 years. Lots of dead weight because no one gets fired. Promotions are not fair for all. Promotion board must approve all promotions. If one person on board has issues then your stuck.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Drop the dead weight. Tell the truth even if it hurts,

I have been working at Walmart part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

It's a job that is wiling to work with my school schedule. Most people are friendly, cooperative, and true team members.

    Cons

After the work schedule is made and posted, it continues to change frequently. Communication is unsatisfactory. The computers that must be used for Computer-Based-Learning (CBL's) are from the stone-age. The benefit system is not good. The employee discount is not even available for 90 days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change the benefit policy system. 6 months for full-time employees and 1 yr for part-time (30 hrs/wk) is too long to wait for insurance, etc. Good employees will not be able to stay with you if the system is changed. Management needs to know and give a summary of benefits when a job offer is made, not wait until the employee's orientation that's after the drug test.
