Former Employee - Department Manager in Cortland, NY

I worked at Walmart full-time (more than 10 years)

Pros

Sometimes teamwork can be helpful.

Cons

Too many tasks expected in a time frame not possible when daily events keep changing. WM seems more disorganized than ever (19) years with company. No $ recognition for effort unless you. kiss butt to mgmt. and suck up to them . Which makes you part of the problem.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more people to work within depts not as cashiers. Hire just cashiers so others can do their work in the time frame you now expect. You are micro managing your help too much. For the most part in my 19 years your experienced people know how to get it done and they teach their help when they get them. Customers are missing the helpful associates they used to have!!!

I have been working at Walmart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

it's nice to sometimes have a day off in the middle of the week, it gives you time to get things done while other businesses are still open. It also is great to be able to have some days that you don't have to go in as early.

    Cons

The changing schedules can make it very hard to find a babysitter when one day you are scheduled to work from 10 am to 2 pm, and the next day work from 6 pm to 11 pm. The schedules are very messed up there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

be a little more consistent with scheduling peoples hours

I have been working at Walmart part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

In my case, my co-workers were just great and made my time at Walmart about the best I could have expected.

    Cons

Managers are often apathetic; not much direction given. More than once, employees were told to sign off that they'd received training, when no such training had been given by leadership.
