Pros

There is room for growth here. There are many possible ways to go with this corporation.

Cons

Although walmart started out being a family 5 and dime but it has grown into a huge conglomeration. The problem sometimes it's that you lose the personal part of the business that believe that walmart has lost.

Advice to Management

Upper management needs to look at who they are promoting.

    Pros

Opportunity for growth Many different paths to grow your career Performance-based and merit is the basis for advancement and movement

    Cons

Variation in quality of leader - you could have a good supervisor or one not so good Once you are in management there are frequent moves and relocation Hard work and long hours - you must have a great work ethic to succeed

    Advice to Management

Use the grass roots process with the same intensity used for financial measures of success Be sure managers are modeling the culture of "people first, profits will follow" Work with associates to provide career management and planning

    Pros

    Good salary and bonus structure.

    Cons

The company has become very "scorecard" driven. We no longer take care of the customer. You don't need to be a merchant or have an ability to make a decision. It's all about metrics...making a scorecard to give the false impression that everything is puppies and rainbows. I was saddened a few years ago when we could no longer hire full time associates and could only hire part time. Now the restrictions are even worse in that we can only hire temporary associates. Poor pay for hourly associates with no benefits as a temp. Pretty ridiculous!

    Advice to Management

Loosen the micro-managing structure. Throw the scorecards away. Customers do not care about any of the metrics...they just want associates in the stores to help them find products and cashiers at the registers.
