I have been working at Walmart part-time (less than an year)

Pros

Minimal qualifications for most jobs. Great for those who just need a paycheck while looking for something more permanent or as part-time holiday work.

Cons

Most positions are considered part-time, but associates frequently work full time hours with a brief reduction just before qualifying for full time benefits. Benefits like health insurance, when available, are laughable. Potential over-time hours are eliminated with extended lunch periods. Associate is rarely offered the option to end a shift early instead of the extended unpaid meal period (at times 3 hour lunches requiring the associate to clock back in for the last 1-2 hours of their shift).

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop mistreating your store associates. My experience at Wal-Mart showed me why unions are needed.

I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

base pay is decent for salaried management, in exchange for it in blood, sweat, and tears.

    Cons

Promotion from within is very skewed or secretly picked and went through the process with candidates (even internal candidates) just to check a box but already had someone else in mind. Market level and regional management are a joke and spending time all day sending e-mails.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please look at your regional leadership, even at the store level, if they've been there 15-20 years and the market is getting worse by the day. Look more closely. Maybe it's time to bring fresh blood. Stop recycling people around, if you are that scared of your employee replacing you, you are in the wrong business. All the ones with the 10+ year badge don't do anything, except working the system.
