I worked at Walmart part-time for less than a year

    Pros

The employees at Walmart seem to get a long, and you will find people from all walks of life. The diversity at Walmart is something to marvel at. I was coming into employment with a year of sobriety, still living in a sober home, and managing it as well. This did not deter management from offering me a position, and I found that many employees have had very troublesome backgrounds. Walmart is a place to start building a work ethic, and a job history.

    Cons

I worked in the Deli (applied for a sales associate position), and during the 2-3 day long CBT orientation, I asked multiple times about how I would obtain a Food Handlers License. Management seemed surprised that I would even think to ask. They said "Your department manager will tell you". Days into the job, I asked some of my coworkers about it including my department manager, and they had the same reaction, as if I was speaking in tongues. We sliced meat, cheese, prepared salads/sandwiches/pizzas, operated multiple cooking machines. Not one person was asked to provide or even obtain a Food Handlers License.

I left after two or three weeks, as I didn't feel comfortable working for a company that disregarded that regulation.

The pay is laughable. As much money as the company brings in, they could at least throw a bone to the employees. Apparently, my $8.60 I was making was "the highest pay in the store outside of management".
