I have been working at Walmart part-time for more than a year

Pros

Good distance from my house
SOME good associates

Cons

Management is little to no help (and I am CSM).
Hiring process is a joke (a lot of unprofessional high school graduates).
Associate appreciation is only shown when Market managers and other high level managers come visit.
No overtime is given (for the store I work at anyway).
All the talk about team work is out the door when your done with orientation.
Orientation needs a huge improvement (outdated computer training).
Morale is at an all time low.
If you do become anything more than a regular floor associate, skills go out the window. Either you be a punching bad for the store manager or get fired.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay attention to your associates, a job is more than just coming to work. You have to actually work with each other to get things done.

    I worked at Walmart part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    A small employee discount on taxable items.
    Easy to move up and around within a store.
    Ability to transfer to another store so you will always have a job where ever you go.
    Has invested a lot of time into building a good company culture.
    Always busy at work to make the time go by.

    Cons

    Too much work is assigned for the amount of time in a work day/week.
    Company strictly enforces a no overtime policy and will terminate associates for going over 40 hours.
    Most associates are considered to be part-time but still scheduled close to 40 to avoid having to give benefits.
    Scheduled odd hours, any time of the morning or night, never had a weekend or holiday off.
    Office politics give some associates preferential treatment over others.
    Management makes no attempt to reduce employee turnover: will terminate associates and tell them to reapply in a month to be rehired.
    Management openly insults associates who have given their notice and will make no attempt to entice the associates to stay.
    Store and company policies are heavy in red tape making it difficult to do your job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Reward associates who perform above and beyond the standard. Try to actually hang on to good associates.
