Not the worst place to work, but it wasn't great.

I worked at Walmart for more than a year

    Pros

I worked at a Neighborhood Market so it was more like working at a grocery store than at a Supercenter. It was honest work for some needed money. I enjoyed being a cashier.

    Cons

It seems like they'll hire anyone. My coworkers and bosses were not very smart and often rude people. Even though I was hired as a cashier, they would often call me back to unload the truck or to push carts just because I was a guy. The girls stayed on the cash register. Those jobs weren't fun.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The more you pay your employees, the higher quality you get. I understand it's not your style, but Wal-Mart doesn't really have a good name, does it?

I worked at Walmart full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The work is easy and there is plenty of room for advancement quickly if you are remotely competent. Work/Life Balance was great because if I ever wanted to do something I almost always could as long as I gave my manager a few weeks notice so they could plan around it.

    Cons

The more you care the more jaded you become. Coworkers and managers tend to take advantage of hard workers. Many managers play favorites and can handle criticism. In my store managers lead everyone on just enough to stay but never actually get a promotion they deserve, instead handing them to their favorites.
