Retail chains have lost their character....it's all about the money and the overtly, aggressive pursuit of market share.

Former Employee - Staff Pharmacist in Austin, TX

I worked at Walmart full-time (more than 5 years)

Pros

Salaries are only average and certainly not industry leading.

Cons

Terrible insurance benefits, incredibly overbearing micro-management, inherent high-stress liability, holiday-weekend-night scheduling, extremely high volume, harsh punishment attitude of management, longevity highly questionable.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide state of the art equipment, improve your insurance packages, overhaul your harsh micromanagement methods, RIF top-heavy administration, improve your training, provide adequate support personnel, refrain from threatening your employees,

    Current Employee - Merchandise Supervisor

I have been working at Walmart full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    They work with your availability.
You most certainly can move up in this company.

    Cons

You are one person but they expect you to be 3 associates in one.
    Respect for the individual......what's that?
    Unrealistic expectations
don't get sick or you'll get written up!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire associates needed in your store. Train your Merchandise Supervisors/Department Managers. Realize that the tasks that could easily be managed by several people can not be done by one individual in an 8 hour shift.
