I would say that it can be a rewarding place to work provide you approach it with a very open mind.

I have been working at Walmart

Pros

I think tht the most rewarding aspect of being a memeber of the Wal-Mart team is the MIP (Management Insentive Plan). The base salary for this organization is really not that great for the level of commitment one has to dedicate. If you value work life balance, this is not the place for you/

Cons

Work life balance is not a priority for Wal-Mart

Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you have to dedication and the drive, you can become a leader at Wal-Mart.

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

Good bonuses and the contribute to retirement

    Cons

They don't listen to employees. They overlook those that would be best for promotions and promote on a favortism basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

They need to be better supervisers and see what their employees are really doing. If they listen more to employees they would be better at their job.

I have been working at Walmart

    Pros

The company offers an unparalleled experience in large scale operation. The cost of living in Bentonville AR is also mind-bogglingly low.

    Cons

The management is unconcerned about employee welfare and long term growth. Immediate results are needed. Anything requiring time and money is immediately shot down as being infeasible by either your management or your team members who are content.

Intra-office warfare is quite common. Its to the point where some departments are chartered to provide services to the company as a whole, but offer it at such a high price that it is cheaper and easier to implement your own duplicate system. And management is OK with that.

There are far too many inter-office feuds in the ISD area. Some managers hate other managers and will throw every imaginable road block in the way.

Innovation is a long standing joke. The management demands innovation, but is unwilling to have sufficient test environments or do anything to jeopardize the availability numbers. It basically leads to a point where innovation is demanded but crushed due to lack of resources for testing or too high risk to even attempt to test.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture needs a major face-lift. There are too many competing agendas and factions. The management needs a major re-alignment.
