    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

Great people to work with as peers
    Excellent on the job training
Great cafeteria in both main offices
    Good movement abilities

    Cons

    Long standard work days/week
    Excessive category management responsibilities
Fragile job security--especially if during economic downturn
Managers stretched too thin for number of people they manage

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to chase the competitiors that you see as a threat to your business by trying to imiate their strategy. Do what Walmart does best and do it better than anyone else.

    I worked at Walmart

    Pros

Good pay for the job, compared to Target and the like. It is a big store, so you can move around if you get bored, though this is NOT a quick process. Because WalMart has so much scrutiny placed upon them, they are VERY strict about breaks. You will get reprimanded if you don't take one. You can apply for days off way in advance in the computer system, in fact you have to because the schedule is made 3 weeks in advance.

    Cons

For performance evals seems like you always just get the standard raise, in my three years I never got the extra bonus. The biggest con, however, is the people you both serve and work with. They can be terrible. In general, the older the person was I was working with the better. As far as customers, I'm glad I'm easy-going. There was only one time I got truly pissed off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make the opportunities to make more money more palpable and linked to real-world performance.
