    I have been working at Walmart eCommerce as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

    * Competitive contractual rate
    * Fair number of people (unfortunately only at the bottom of the totem pole) are very friendly and nice

    Cons

    Where to start?

    * No one at the executive level has any vision
    * No one at the executive level has the guts to put forth a solid plan, empower the right people and push the plan through
    * As a result incompetent middle managers get hired, bring their friends on board and make a mess
    * Very weak hires in senior management, architecture/design, business and technology leadership roles
    * Friendships and social ties get rewarded not ideas, innovation, hard-work
    * Too many lazy people not doing anything - the less you do and not rock the boat - that gets rewarded
    * Fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants technology decisions, changing tech stacks constantly, trying out tools just for fun or because they are "in" or sure would look good on a resume, changing core platform designs on a whim
    * Total misapplication of Agile
    * Too many meetings - 5 floors with approx 30 rooms per floor = approx 150 meeting rooms. Forget trying to book one. The company seems to value having endless meetings, mistaking meetings for actual work/progress
    * Anal retentive processes hinder progress, e.g. security teams (productivity-prevention specialists) make your badge, email and logins expire every 3 months causing you to lose 1-2 work days every 90 days as they work (slowly) to reinstate your accounts/machine/badge
    * Expect corporate reorgs every 2-3 months - been here 6 months have had 3 bosses and been shifted from team to team
    * Confuse quantity with quality - they hire too many (bad) managers, then hire a bunch of tech personnel so that the managers have something to do, then when nothing gets done and communication gets complex decide that more managers are needed, then hire more tech personnel, rinse, wash, repeat, ... The result is a gigantic team (like 40+) that is impossible to manage and there are maybe 5 or 6 people that actually do anything useful. The amount of deadwood in the company is staggering.
    * Product and business is led by the nose by power-hungry tech execs and managers - the result is that the customer and partners are not represented
    * Walmart is pissing away hundreds of millions of dollars in a failing attempt to compete with Amazon. They have committed huge outlays of resources to re-do the outdated/inept ecommerce platform but are in the process of recreating the exact same thing due to bad planning, poor execution and ridiculous decisions to maintain ties to legacy systems. There is no way Walmart will challenge Amazon by spinning around in circles with no direction. The game is safely for Amazon to lose

    Fire yourselves, let competent and dedicated people take over to streamline the organization and get more done with less and in less time
