Current Employee - Manager  in  San Bruno, CA
Current Employee - Manager in San Bruno, CA

Pros

- Work on projects with enormous scale and impact
- Recognizable brand for resume
- Good work/life balance, easy hours
- Passionate coworkers

Cons

- Limited room for advancement, which is surprising for the size of the company. Promotions tend to be random and are based on relationships rather than skills and abilities. As a result, there is a level of mediocre middle management
- People are generally nice, but not as smart as some of the other Bay Area tech companies
- Division has been growing very rapidly over the past few years, which leads to growing pains

Advice to ManagementAdvice

- Focus on developing talent and new leaders for the company, not on rewarding people for "playing the part"
- Pick a strategy and stick with it. Priorities change too much.

Current Employee - Business Manager in San Bruno, CA

    Pros

    Life/work balance is possible
NOT attitude laden like some companies
    Great physical environment
Really friendly people full of passion
    Plenty of opportunity for growth

    Cons

Very matrix like so can be a bit dysfunctional at times -but that simply translates into lots of low hanging fruit

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ensure alignment trickles down to all levels. Walmart is making good headway on this but as we are moving so fast, there is sometimes avoidable inefficiency and confusion.

Hierarchical and bureaucratic--not a start up environment they claim!

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

    Pros

    Everyone is nice and accommodating
    Decent amenities (cafeteria, food, etc)
    Good work/life balance

    Cons

Lack of career opportunities (you have to be VERY planful or wait until the person above you moves on..like the government!!)

Lack of focus--lots of conversation about ideas, but little understanding on how to execute
Too many meetings with no clear outcomes or agenda

Consensus-driven decision making--everyone needs to be involved to make a decision-big/small which is frustrating

Leadership don't really have the experience--none have been in their current roles previously where they can really demonstrate the way forward
    V
ery fractured organization--lack of cross-functional harmony

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach. If you want to resemble a high growth, innovative start up, get rid of the antiquated mentality about career, titles, roles

Stop having so many meetings with no clear purpose
