I have been working at Washburn University

Pros

I have worked for Washburn in several capacities since 2004. In all cases, I have my work enormously rewarding. As a faculty member, I found Washburn offers a reasonable salary with excellent benefits. Support for travel , research, and professional development, as well as for student travel, is extraordinary. I recommend Washburn without reservation.

Cons

Change can be slow and change by committee even slower, and that is as true at Washburn as it is at other universities.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Acknowledge that a paradigm shift took place in higher ed almost two decades ago. Embrace opportunities to offer students more technology, more opportunities for flexible schedules -- in short, work towards deceloping an increasingly innovative culture.

    Pros

Low standard of living in Topeka is good for low pay

    Cons

Administration is heavy handed and cares little for faculty; was there for 10 years and more than half we weere on a salary freeze because of budget issues but llts of impressive building going onon campus with the explanation that these are different budgets; true but pathetic morale
