Current Employee - Plant Maintenance in Washington, DC
Current Employee - Plant Maintenance in Washington, DC

I have been working at Washington Metro full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Making a very stable or let's say a guaranteed pay check and the ability to make it a decent one with overtime
    - Less work which means you will have extra time for your family or maybe to read online or maybe to hang out somewhere or maybe to sleep if you worked overtime last night!
    - Free transportation.
    - Tuition Re-imbursement (not much but still GOOD)
    - One of the best Medical insurance coverage in the country and a reasonable retirement plan.

    Cons

    - Discrimination against everyone except for some. Even simple disagreement with a co-worker could turn to a discrimination issue.
-Very unprofessional environment. people who started their work at WMATA as custodians and office boys are now managers, super intendants and even deputy general managers. some of them can't even write down two English statements or use a computer. so where the efforts, years of reading/learning and money of educated people should go?!
    - Everybody is stuck to WMATA's extended and growing polices (WMATA's Bible). Nobody can change or discuss any content unless there is an accident with fatalities and not being covered by a policy.
    - Here in WMATA, We are living 40-50 years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

According to all new and old management principle, the situation in WMATA should be changed but unfortunately along with a crises to the employees. Unless the FED and local governments do something, WMATA will keep sucking a big bite of TAX payer money for nothing.
