Pros

OFM had some of the most dedicated and talented public service professionals in the Unied States. The leaders and staff here are dedicated to meeting the needs of Washington citizens and are willing to stand up to any challenge.

Cons

The various program areas an be disjointed at times, with Budget, Policy, HR, etc., often not working in coordination or understanding what the other shop is working on.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management should put more focus on coordinated strategic planning. An office wide strategic plan that integrates the deliverables of each program would benefit both state government and citizens.

    Pros

    There are some parts of the agency that are far behind in technology and there are other parts that are keeping up pretty well. Most of the work is project based, so if you enjoy working towards deadlines, it's pretty good. The IT division is currently going through an org change now, which could change things a bit. My guess is that things will get better, rather than worse.

    Cons

    Limited upside potential. Top positions are limited and are filled by people who are not retiring and in some cases, frankly aren't worth their weight in salt. I guess this is pretty typical of government work though, in that people are often rewarded more for how long they stick around, rather than the value they provide.

    Place more value on the value that the employee provides, rather that their tenure.
