I have been working at Waste Management full-time

Pros

Fair compensation and benefits, for the most part hard working great co-workers

Cons

Customer retention tough due to pricing strategy and fees, long hours for managers.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Come up with a long term strategy for unit growth pricing stability based on overall industry capacity and share this with the employees.

    Cons

-limited career opportunities once you are hired
    -no internal growth
    -recently cut out tuition reimbursement
-didn't pay bonuses which can be 10-15% of salary(recruiters tell you WM has always paid bonuses, and try to negotiate a lower salary)- my advice always go for the highest salary bracket

-recently there has been a large exit of good people
-seem like they hire people who can talk corporate jargon but can't produce

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When you have good people make sure you keep them. Everyone knows it is cheaper to keep a customer than to gain a new one, the same holds true for employees. When you have those employees make sure you give them a career path and find avenues of training and advancement. I have known numerous people say I dont want to leave, but when they ask their boss to match other offers, they said their hands are tied. I have also seen ex-employees leave and come back in a year at a substantially higher salary. If employees are loyal to you and do a good job, make sure you are loyal to them. If you dont pay them bonuses then give them something else like more vacation time or flex time. Speaking of bonuses, there can't be a conflict of senior management compensation with regular employees compensation. Let me explain you can't RIFFa bunch of people, saving the company million of dollars and tell everyone to focus on the budget when your compensation is directly tied to the stock price that increases whenever you perform these actions.

I worked at Waste Management full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Co-workers are great to work with and make you want to be there.

    Cons

Management does not appear too concerned about the growth and development of staff. Favoritism at its finest.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work more towards improving employee satisfaction and promoting from within.
