Pros

- pay was decent for the area i lived in
- 401k package is good

Cons

- rules. rules rules. all very silly too. you weren't allowed to walk around certain areas of the office if you weren't clocked in or you'd get written up. if you peeped a word to someone who was "working" while you were officially on your 10 min break you'd get written up. if you clock in 1 second late (i'm not over exaggerating) it gets marked on your record.
- no sick leave. they like to pep you up by saying you're so lucky to get 18 vacation days as a new employee, what they do not tell you is that if you ever get sick you DO NOT have any sick leave and they actually MAKE YOU use your vacation hours if you call in sick rather than just opting not to get paid for the day you didn't show up to work.
- dress code sucks. you sick behind a desk all day and they're very stingy about casual days or letting you way casual dress. they expect to see you in slacks and dress clothes everyday even though you will never, ever see a customer.
- besides the fact that management doesn't know how to manage, expect to be cussed out and verbally abused by customers on a daily basis - and be expected to take it. instead of supporting their employees and giving them the right to hang up on an verbally abusive customers, they suggest that you suck it up and take it.

Advice to Management

hey management, we know you're in charge. so instead of coming up with silly rules that anger off your employees and ruin the morale just so you can remind us that you're in charge and build up your big, bad egos maybe you should worry about how to actually MANAGE.

    Pros

Pay was fine. Benefits were one of the best in the industry. Benefits started to get expensive for a 11 Billion dollar a year company, though. Trucks were good, maintance was ok. At first, lots of room to improve your performence.

    Cons

Company has policy to report every injury, I did, thats why i am a former employee. Company made every effort to keep me from returning to work. Productivity manager didn't have CDL, but did ride along to tell us what we were doing wrong. Too much favoritism to special employees. Company has deep pockets for management. At end,one mechanic for 25 trucks. Unrealistic productivity goals, example- why i took 2 minutes longer to get to landfill compared to other driver. Getting hurt, then losing bonus AND percentage of raise. NOT FAIR.

    Advice to Management

Get managers who care about the employees. Dont be so cheap with the people who do all the work. Lower the prices to stop the bleeding, and keep the company afloat. When an incident happens somewhere on the earth, don't make everyone pay for it with a new foolish safety rule, like lowering the boom, draining the air, shutting down, taking the key,or else terminiated. P.S.--everybody else is laughing at "Industry leader" Waste Management.

    Pros

Benefits are good, including support for furthering education through tuition reimbursement program, opportunity for advancement if willing to relocate. Company seeks to remain industry leader far into the future with investments in alternate waste handling technologies and recycling. Focus on safety remains a priority, which benefits all employees.

    Cons

Communication between senior management and field operations is poor. Employees hired prior to updated pay scales are not always brought to current scale. Current hiring procedures have dramatically increased the length of time a vacated position remains open.

    Advice to Management

Implementing costly new systems without benefit of field feedback and trials diminishes employee confidence in senior management and undermines corporate ability to persuade hourly workers of need to be frugal and accept raises which do not cover increased cost of benefits.
