Former Employee – worked at WayForward Technologies
Pros – WayForward is a great way to get your foot in the door of the game industry. Some of the best employees have used it as a stepping stone to larger studios. It's a good first job for college graduates, who will find willing mentors in their area of expertise. There's a lot of outstanding talent among the employees. It's also a family friendly environment, and work hours are flexible rather than fixed. The management is understanding of committments outside of work. Overall, the teams work well together and anyone will find friends among the coworkers. Anyone who is passionate about games, talented, and ambitious will find opportunities for career growth.
Cons – WayForward offers poor benefits and salary for its location in Southern California. Many of the employees are fresh out of college, and the rest have very little game development experience prior to WayForward. One of the biggest problems is that good work often goes unrewarded. The management rarely (if ever) offers promotions or salary raises. The company lacks an internal structure to clarify each person's role and what they're entitled to. As a result, the employees who complain loudly tend to get more money/benefits out of the company and stay around longer, while employees who would rather get their work done than complain will wonder why their salary hasn't changed in 3 years, or why they've never been offered anything that resembles a promotion. These quieter employees are often talented, but they slowly get disgruntled, get fed up, and then leave.
Advice to Senior Management – Offer salary raises or title promotions to your best employees every once in a while. In the long run, people who believe their work matters will work harder.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend
