Wayfair (formerly CSN Stores) – “It paid the bills (barely) but I hated it.”

young, enthusiastic culture, there are some opportunities to learn about the business and there is room to move around the company. Good Benefits. The owners were very nice to everyone and tried their best to get to know anyone they could. They had very good intentions.
Cons
It was best described when someone said it was like a technology factory with little monkeys (college grads and Northeastern co-ops) on the factory line. I wanted a job in marketing and while the title "Product Marketing Specialist" sounds like marketing...trust me it's not. I sat there along with all the other monkeys for a whole year entering product descriptions until I was numb. I also answered phones for a few months. The work was so un-stimulating and un-challenging I felt like I wasn't doing anything with my brain; and it was especially hard since I'd had jobs before hand where I felt really valued and used my brain all day while continually being challenged. This was the complete opposite. I was so under-valued and not challenged in the least. I was so replaceable that it wouldn't matter if I were sitting there or a dummy in my place who could type. Really, it was that bad. Some days I would go in there crying.
I also tried to move to a different dept at some points, desperate to change my boring routine. For some it worked fine; but I worked my butt off for months and was never moved. However, some employees who had just joined the company were promoted right away. This was very difficult for me. I couldn't get out of that company fast enough. One year felt like an eternity.
Advice to Senior Management
Find ways to make EVERYONE feel valued. Try giving new opportunities to everyone; especially those who have been working there for a long period of time.
