Great people, ridiculous politics in the upper ranks

Pros

Lots of energetic, positive people to work with. Lots of brilliant people. Great atmosphere, and the management is vibrant and supportive. Great place for women and minorities to work. After-work fitness program is extraordinary.

Cons

Many priorities mixed up. Will hire VPs, SVPs and EVPs at the drop of a hat, but refuse to invest in the lower management that actually does the grunt work. Political agendas inhibit many useful things from getting done. The word "investment" is not in their dictionary -- must be immediate, tangible and political benefit to everything -- especially innovation.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize who really does the work, and invest in the lower ranks. If you want to catch up to Edelman in the least bit, quit stagnating internal innovation.

I liked the autonomy given to the staff but the pay was not very satisfying.

I have been working at Weber Shandwick full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

There is a lot of emphasis on employee input, flexible hours, and team building. The company also promotes a healthy work/life balance.

    Cons

The pay is not commensurate with the work. Also, there appears to be uneven criteria used by staff when it comes to promotions and salary increases.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I suggest upper management keep a closer watch on the actual work performed by middle managers. Many supervisors take too much of the credit and give little recognition to their team.

    Pros

    - Great Learning Experience

    - Work around a lot of talented professionals
    - Often given a chance to go above and beyond your responsibilities

    Cons

    - Low hourly pay
    - Poor communication about hiring process
    - Short extensions make no sense

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more transparent about the hiring process and which practices are hiring.
