Pros

Investment Banking. It is a decent place for recent college graduates to gain entry into investment banking or equity research. For lateral (experienced) hires, it is a place to remain in industry until better job opportunities are uncovered. Also, you might work with some capable colleagues with similar interests and ambitions.

Cons

Investment Banking. There are several. First, and foremost, the firm is operated by a senior team (father, two sons, and select other managers) that is shockingly unethical in the manner it treats clients and team members, particularly junior and middle level bankers. Second, transactions are typically of poor quality, including questionable equity placements, reverse mergers and PIPES. So, the experience one gains is limited and may even be a detraction to future reputable employers. Third, base salary lags street, and bonuses are disbursed well below market and range that HR and senior managers indicate when recruiting candidates – and this is true across the board.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

None to senior management. To potential employees and customers, conduct thorough due-diligence by contacting former junior bankers, managers from clients and college recruiting offices.

I have been working at Wedbush Securities

    Pros

Potential job growth and career advancement, good place to learn industry basics and get foot in the door for the securities industry. The company has great potential to good or even great within the regional brokerage business, but unfortunately continues to be mismanaged and slow

    Cons

Management is slow and old fashion, not willing to spend the proper capital or reinvest in the company to make the company grow or become better. Salaries are below average compared to industry norms. Company is trapped in the past such as the 60s and 70s, the business world has changed, decisions and strategic planning most be better thought out and articulated to whole company. Problems are never resolved until it becomes a crisis at the firm or fines are implement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend money within the business and allow lower mangers to make some decisions, instead of everything being bottlenecked at the top with one man overlooking ever item down to the penny, then coming to a decesion three to half year down the road.

I have been working at Wedbush Securities

    Pros

Good place to begin career in research or management of capital or investments. I would not stay here long term, however.

    Cons

Opportunities in comparison to other companies are very limited, does not provide for climbing corporate ladder but rather carving oneself a niche

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More incentives! This would greatly increase the motivation in your current workers and would make working less of a chore and more of an enjoyable task
