I worked at Weill Cornell Medical College full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

    -Really dedicated faculty!
-Many top-notch labs to work in
-Great location, near MSKCC and Rockefeller
-Opportunity to go to many fantastic talks and lectures.
-Student clinic (SHS) is quite good; health insurance is adequate
-Students are eligible for subsidized housing nearby
    -Publication and collaboration are encouraged
    -Interesting courses
    -Great extracurricular clubs and activities
    -Good stipend

    Cons

    -No childcare
-Grad school administration can be difficult and unprofessional to work with
-There seems to be nowhere to turn if you have problems with housing, your PI, or professional/ethical concerns
-The reimbursement procedure for conferences, work-related expenses, etc., can take 6 months-1 year
-The institution in general is bogged down with layers of departments and administrators; it is never clear who to go to with what question. A simple request for a form can take days to figure out!
-Postdocs are underpaid and under-served at Weill-Cornell

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Students, postdocs, and faculty should have the opportunity to evaluate administrative staff annually and anonymously. I'm not sure what evaluation procedures are currently in place, but they are not working, and there is no opportunity to give negative or positive feedback regarding administrative staff or procedures. There are some amazing administrators here who are never recognized even though the staff/faculty/students they serve appreciate them enormously-- but we're powerless in terms of their professional advancement.

    2. Childcare/FMLA needs must be addressed ASAP for postdocs and students.
