Nice place to work if you can afford it and you don't mind settling for the job you enter with.

I have been working at Welch Allyn

Pros

Most of the people that work here are helpful and friendly. more of a family atmosphere. As long as you don't have big ideas about changing systems to be more state of the art, then you can enjoy working here, as the company does not have the money or the energy for big systems changes. The company works very hard to make sure that employees that are no longer needed in one area of the busines have an opportunity to locate to another department.

Cons

pay increases for promotions are tiny. its not worth the effort. make sure you negotiate a good salary when you join the company because the only way of making a significant change to your salary is to leave.

many of the employees have worked for Welch Allyn for a long time and do not have medical device industry exeprience before Welch Allyn. This means they are happy working with some very old and antiquated systems and methods.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

management should hire some real talent from outside of the upstate New York or Beaverton , Oregon areas. Hire some real medical device professionals that can bring true medical device experience and expertise to the company.

    I worked at Welch Allyn

    Pros

You are surrounded by friendly and helpful co-workers and staff, you will gain significant amount of experience in working in this field.

    Cons

The work environment can get very hectic at times. Management seems to indecisive in some matters and there is certainly a lack of communication.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

One thing I might suggest is that since management seems to be new to the process, to offer better modes of communication to the team.

I have been working at Welch Allyn

    Pros

I value many of the other employees that I work with. They are very unhappy with Welch Allyn management and have had to keep their jobs due to the economy. But now, many are leaving as new opportunities arise. They will be missed.

    Cons

I have been with the company for many years. Every other year they change their game plan and their management strategy. They are driven by marketing and not by product quality. Long hours and weekend work result in little recognition, as do suggestions that save the company time and money.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit reorging every 2 years - this is bad for morale. People need to feel appreciated. What happened to being one of the best companies to work for? Did you lose site of taking care of your people? Ms. Shimer could do a fantastic job if her hands weren't tied by a board of directors who can't see beyond the profit margins.
