Pros

-looks fantastic on your resume
-your friends will be slighty jealous
-you can see/meet famous people now and then

Cons

-medicore pay
-absolutely no growth opportunities
-no one on the high level EVER leaves so junior members have no growth opp
-way behind on technological advances for the business side
-HIGH turnover
-absolutely no communication between managers and employees in their department and also higher level management and employees

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have lunches with low level employees so you know how your managers are actually doing. Communicate with employees!

    Pros

    You become a media insider. You see what happens when news breaks. You witness the creation of some of the best publications in the US. Lots of famous people pass through. Laid back work environment. And summer Fridays. Some really fine people to learn from. Great place for an intern or a young college graduate who is lucky enough to get hired. Women have a very good chance to advance..Us Magazine has a lot of turn over..especially during the summer months.

    Cons

    Business side is over worked. Editorial acts at times like they are in high school. Youth driven business. Average age is about 27 or younger. If you don't diversify your job..you will be stuck at it. Opportunity for advancement is extremely difficult. Most employees will stay 2-3 years maximum..depending on the job. Deadlines can be pressure packed.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Give the less high profile departments more chances to advance. More mentoring of new employers is necessary. Have more events where everybody can get to know each other better.

    Pros

    • Looks good to have "Rolling Stone" on your resume.
    • It's widely known that if you can survive at Wenner, then you can survive anywhere
    • Great place to work if you are into professional sadomasochism
    • The interior decoration of the office is quite nice

    Cons

    • The pressure to accomplish huge amounts of work in short amounts of time with little or no resources is overwhelming
    • Absolutely no support or understanding from management. I only got a raise when I threatened to leave.
    • Toxic culture based on fear rather than reward.
    • Exceptionally unyielding accounting department and overly complicated accounting practices.
    • Extremely high staff turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Realize that your staff are human beings, and your greatest asset. Stop publicly backstabbing upper management and continuing sweat-shop style work practices for your lower-level staff.
