West Fraser Timber – “Not Female Friendly”
Pros
Very relaxed atmosphere for men and sales department are treated as if they can do no wrong.
Cons
No formal performance reviews or goals; some management seem to have different sets of rules for different employees; corporate offices are obnoxious about restricting access and usage of internet by employees - most sites are blocked and they are about to implement time limits per day on everyone - even when you need to use the internet for your job. Company emails are filtered and some they consider "spam" are blocked.
Advice to Senior Management
Set performance goals for employees and then review them annually so employees know where they stand. People want to know what's expected of them and if they're doing a good job. They shouldn't have to try to judge their performance based on how their manager is treating them.
If someone is abusing the internet and email, address the problem with that person. Do not punish the entire company by treating us like children who can't be trusted to use the internet. You shouldn't hire us if you don't trust us any more than that.
If a manager has an issue with an employee she should address it with that employee and should do it in private. It is unfair to bully and humiliate an employee in front of their coworkers.
