Western Digital Senior Principal Engr in Fremont, CA:   (Current Employee)

Pros

The company has been very profitable and the management is focused on the right thing - profitability and makes the right business decisions.

Cons

Business sucess may have little to do with individual's. Very low pay and no raise for years. The bonus and benefit (401K) system is very unfair for low-pay employees. It may not be a too bad place to work for Sr. level people, but for entry level - strongly not recommended. The work environment is very bad and many employees are unhappy, yet little effort seems to have been put on it by the management.

Advice to Senior Management

Play fair. Don't take advantage of people who work for WD for years. It will translate to significant turnovers, just a matter of time if no proper actions are taken. Profitability is important, yet treating emplyees reasonably well can't be completely ignored.
