I have been working at Western Governors University full-time for more than 3 years

Pros

Work from home; save gas

Cons

Constant, disorganized change
-Poor internal communication
-Fear-based micromanagement
-Mentors held to metrics that are based on student behavior.
-Work week is MUCH longer than 40 hours.
-No change management; changes at any level, in any system, result in increased workload on already overworked staff

Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Drop the call center, sales force mentality and respect your employees as the professionals that you required for the positions.
-Control and manage growth so that employees are not working 50-80 hours/week.

I have been working at Western Governors University full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

WGU is a wonderful place to work overall. There is opportunity to advance and you have the ability to contribute to student success. The culture is great. It is very family friendly and most everyone understands that family life is more important that work life.

    Cons

Due to the University's non-profit status the compensation possibilities are limited.

I have been working at Western Governors University full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Many employees outside of Salt Lake work from home full time. Living in Salt Lake, I get the best of both worlds. Working from home is really nice to be able to do when needed. My boss and (and their boss, too) is very supportive and great to work for. Most co-workers really care about helping students which makes it a positive place to work. Company is actively trying to make it a great place to work. Employee tuition discount is also a nice perk.

    Cons

The biggest con kind of comes with the territory of working on the phones with people: students can be really difficult sometimes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep up the GPTW initiatives!
