Pros

- Westinghouse pays very well for entry level workers
- The benefits are superb (health, vision, dental, short term disability and vacation)
- There's always work to be had

Cons

- Westinghouse is a very "old-time" company (you won't get promoted unless you've put in enough time, etc.)
- Engineers are very stubborn about doing things one way and one way only
- Way too many forms to fill out for anything to get done
- Work is plentiful, but it is also very dull

Advice to Management

Let people telecommute for crying out loud! The power struggle behind not letting workers work from home that can is absurd.

    Pros

    - Nice main office.
    - Great cafeteria.

    Cons

    - Matrix organization. This style of management does not work for mega projects.
    - Absolutely will not finish current nuclear projects on time and within budget. This is not good for the future of the company.
    - Lots of inbreeding.
    - Hiring boom a few years back caused many people to be promoted who should not have been. This means highly incompetent managers.
    - How many CEOs has Westinghouse been through in the past 2 years? It's hard to keep track.
    - Many people lack experience. Poor quality of work.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees better. If you continue with the mandatory saturdays, you will lose your best talent.

Good people, bad management, ruthless executive management which sees itself as being above all other employees

    Pros

Work is interesting and there is always room for innovation, so if you are a self starter you will enjoy it here. Alternate work arrangements such as 9/80, 4/10, and telecommuting help to get your work done while still having a life outside of work.

    Cons

Nearly all engineers, including those with 30+ years of industry experience, completely disagree with the management style. Executive management see themselves as above all other employees, and seem to make decisions without considering the opinions of even the most experienced engineers. The general consensus is that executive management couldn't care less about keeping people employed.

    Advice to Management

Cut down the levels of management by 1/3. Stop selling off all of our intellectual property to the Chinese. Show your employees that you actually care about keeping them employed. Listen to your employees and pay them well, work to remove bureaucracy, work to streamline our processes and remove those that aren't beneficial, and Westinghouse will thrive once again.
