Pros

Good medical, dental plan. 401(K) plus matching (in company stock).
Lots of excellent, professional employees.
Excellent senior management (with just a few minor exceptions)

Cons

Too much middle management.
In many of the offices there are several long-time, high-salaried employees who are going through the motions but not being particularly productive. They seem to be treading water, waiting to retire.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

To CEO, keep up the good work. Just take a serious look at trimming things around the middle to allow Weston to be more cost-competitive in these difficult times.

    Pros

    Great collaborative organization that actively encourages creativity and innovation which makes for a pretty exciting place to work! High level of transperancy and integrity. There are plenty of opportunities for advancement for self starters. Emphasis on leadership development within the company to create the leaders of tommorow.

    Cons

    Need to assess and evaluate opportunities and ensure sharing of information across all levels of organization can at times become cumbersome and slow the decision cycle.

    Continue to strengthen the collaborative culture, consider ways to incentivize collaboration as part of performance goals. We need to get better at acquisition.

    Pros

    Great, smart, hard-working people who care about what we are accomplishing for our clients and their communities. There is a reason why so many people who leave the company come back. Strong opportunities for personal development. Management believes in the concept of employee-ownership, and is beginning to walk the talk around environmental sustainability.

    Cons

    Top-down communications hinder innovation and collaboration. Still struggling with vastly different management and leadership styles across internal divisions, but getting smarter about who the right people are. Slow to market with some core capabilities, and very low market penetration in some key growth areas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Make better use of teachable moments - be honest and open about painful experiences (significant terminations, client issues, and underperforming investments). Take a more visible leadership role in front of some of the broad challenges where Weston can have a positive impact - water resources, energy conservation, etc. And take bold risks!
