I have been working at Westpac Banking as a contractor for less than a year

Pros

Good reputation. Once worked with Westpac it would be easy to find next role. Great location, very convenient to access by train and can spend lunch time at Darling harbour

Cons

The audit team is a very very quiet team. People dont talk to each other. My colleagues are always looking at their laptops or sometime make phone calls. Most of people had lunch alone.

    I worked at Westpac Banking part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    Merit-based recruitment, based on individual testing rather than experience, age, ethnicity or a good CV;
    Individual merit-based reviews and bonuses;
    Friendly and team-based;
    Equal opportunity and no glass ceiling;

    Cons

    A complicated and non-co-ordinated software system;
    Lack of communication between different sections of the bank and different departments;
    No time for coffee breaks and limited lunch breaks;
    Unpaid overtime at the end of the day when reconciling cash/computer systems (the time allowed by the bank was rarely sufficient for this for most employees on most days, but especially on Fridays/Mondays and other extra busy banking days);
    The training period was too short and the employee "thrown in the deep end" with insufficient preparation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Co-ordinate communication and software between departments; Increase training period, pay for the real time worked by employees including end-of-day reconciliation, employ more staff to ensure breaks can be taken regularly.
