Lower level management means well, but the "C" level executives are a mess.

I worked at Westwood College (More than a year)

Pros

The team managers (called Directors Of Admissions), were great and wanted to see everyone succeed. The leaders just above them were great as well.

Cons

The executive team for Alta really are the ones who are responsible for the negativity involved in the company. When pressed about why Westwood was being sued (in a meeting with about 2000 employees there), the COO said, and I quote "Above my pay grade". Have never actually heard a bunch of employees literally "boo" one of their bosses.

Advice to Management

Be straight forward and take responsibility.

I worked at Westwood College full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great place to start in the field of instructional design or educational technology. Good practice.

    Cons

One major con is that once you have Westwood on your CV, it is difficult to get a job anywhere else. People all around the area distrust Westwood because of their terrible ethical standards. Management is micromanaging and looks over your shoulder at everything you are doing. If you are in the bathroom "too long" you get suspicious looks from your manager. It is a culture of distrust.

    Advice to Management

you need a CEO that espouses and encourages solid ethical standards.

I have been working at Westwood College part-time

    Pros

Pay is great Some faculty and staff are really helpful, caring and supportive Depending on your teaching area, you will always have courses to teach

    Cons

High Turn-Over rate in all departments Depending on your teaching area, you may not have courses to teach Some department chairs do not work well with some instructors

    Advice to Management

Change is good and inevitable however staff and faculty that worked well and with others should remain in the college. Changes should also be communicated better than a one line announcement via email. There should be a balance between new and old faculty on how classes are assigned while not basing it all on who has been employed the longest considering they both do the same thing; teach courses!
