Pros

Amazing opportunity to work with CNN,CBS, NBC and some great programming. Also great connections with radio across the country.

Cons

Poor management and no bonus plan for sales

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create sales commission and some sort of promotional scale.

    I worked at Westwood One

    Pros

    Good people to work with
    Good mix of co-workers
    One of the leaders in the industry
    Personally had a great relationship with management, but wasn't always the case with all workers

    Cons

    Management treats sales people better than support staff
    With new management, they brought all of their people in from a previously failed business
    Still paying former employees salaries while the workers are getting pay cuts and furloughs
    Little room for advancement, and none if you do not constantly ask for it with a reason to why you should move up and to what position
    Very few people have gotten any sort of raise or increase in compensation over the past 2+ years

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Treat your employees like you care about them. It's more than just matching 401K or letting people take loans from it. Everyone took a big hit with the economy, but the scale wasn't completely fair in terms of paycuts. Show the office that you took a bigger hit than they did because bottom line ends with management. It's not the sales assistants fault the company made bad decisions, so why punish them more than yourself? The 5-10% of their salary is a much bigger deal then the 10-15% of yours. Create initiatives and incentives for people to actually make more for doing a good job. People are leaving for more money elsewhere and to work for better companies. Make everyone feel wanted and needed rather than just a cog in the machine.

    Pros

    You get to work in radio, worked with people who had been in industry for a long time and people just entering, good a letting you go on sales calls

    Cons

    managment changed alot, company was big on telling you often what you did wrong, never received training was suppose to get, just not a place I wanted to associated with - ethical standards were very low

    Make up your mind and support your people in the field - honestly
