A very dishonest company in the things they do.

I worked at Whataburger full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The company has a lot of positive benefits to offer. The growth is there and the reward can be also.

    Cons

It is a good ole boy system. You don't get recognize for what you do right, just what you do wrong! There is no such thing as team there!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start over with your people. Be honest with them at the hire and just don't lead them on. They will be with you till the end time.

WYSIWYG: what you see is what you get - WB, a great burger culture, but improving everything else takes time.

I worked at Whataburger full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Company growth allows for huge potential organizationally. New professionals are brought I to mix talent pool (really, elevate the performance)

    Cons

Disclaimer: managed a team in the corporate office, worked on the business side, interfaced across all functional lines and org levels (coordinators to sr leadership)

    Org Awareness:
    1. LOTS OF OVERSIGHT- feeling of no empowerment by leadership
    2. Constant org changes caused confusion (I reported to 3 managers is 1.5 years - each with their own interpretation of the companies "e-hem" strategy)
    3. Is a 1 billion in sales org, with amazing potential, but it is run very much run like a mom & pop and paper (called Orange folders) is routed for almost every small decision
    4. It's a burger company first, so focus is placed on front line employees. Professional staff seem to be secondary
    5. I felt there was no appreciation for strategy - unless you have had "grease on your hands"
    6. Directors are more like front line mangers and delegate everything to folks. (Directors have even ask how to set up meetings in Outlook). Org information is not consistently pushed down to managers and staff.

    Project Mgt:
    1. Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) is low and processes varies depending on who your manager may be.
    2. Although you may have the expertise (that' why you were hired), you are still constantly selling the value of process and project mgt to the Directors

    Career Path:
    1. Do you have goals - good, you'll have to develop on your own? I felt like there was no career path for managers - you'll have to make your own (recommend getting a mentor internally to advocate for you).
    2. Titles do not reflect level of responsibility

    Comp:
    1. Pay could more competitive for professionals that manage key staff the execute strategic projects.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No exit interview when I resigned - they never asked.

    Neutral Outlook
