Whirlpool – “Opportunities abound if you align yourself with the right people, the right functional area and know where to look.”
Pros
Exposure to large-scale projects, with a fair amount of autonomy. Looks great on a resume to have experience with the industry leader.
Cons
At Whirlpool, it is all about the title...you are not seen as particularly credible until you have 'Senior' in your job title, regardless of level. Promotion and advancement opportunities vary widely from one functional area to the next. 'Onboarding' process and annual Performance Evaluation processes are ambiguous and confusing at best. Information sharing needs to improve...considerable duplication of effort takes place company-wide.
Advice to Senior Management
I think they are doing the best they can in this economic environment. I would suggest that senior management of Whirlpool make an effort to be more visible to employees. Also, address hearsay and rumors immediately. In a small town like the one where WHR is located, such gossip travels at lightning speed and the company needs to address it sooner rather than later.
