I worked at Whirlpool full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Company has great integrity and the leading appliance manufacturer in the world. Is excellent at lean manufacturing. Provides salary employees lots of opportunity for career advancement. Invest heavily in training personnel to improve job skills.

    Cons

IT technology lags due to lack of funding. Has sent too many manufacturing jobs out of the country. Has outsourced or removed too many value-added jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest more in technology and systems that can benefit manufacturing. There was a trend in the early 2000's where this was done and it was a great benefit to the manufacturing plants, but that was eventually eliminated.

I worked at Whirlpool full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

They are many different career areas in which to gain experience and build your resume.

    Cons

The forced rating system means 20% of employees are rated poorly every year. That leads to employees being dragged into meaningless politics and contributes heavily to employee dissatisfaction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop wasting the talent you work so hard to recruit -- change the way you rate employees and learn how to really connect with and reward them.
