Pros

Great opportunity for entry level position in an industry where most companies want someone with experience. Collaborative environment with smart people who form the backbone of the best security service in the industry.

Cons

The company does not value it's employees and overshadows "opportunity" to distract from the lack of benefits and compensation. It's easy to offer large percentage raises when you start at next to nothing.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase compensation to competitive levels. Offer matching on 401k.

    Pros

Well known industry leader according to Gartner...

The company tries to brand itself a start-up still even though it's more than a decade old, and occasionally will throw events and includes perks like partly stocked break rooms.

    Cons

Despite the WhiteHat moniker, this place is ran on lies and deceit. For instance, don't believe the average review score on Glassdoor. Every time their score slips there's magically 3-4 great reviews filled with marketing buzz words.

The company is a sales driven organization that thinks they're pimping a product off the shelve instead of a service. The previous CEO made a gamble on expanding the sales team and hiring an army of overpaid executives with no security industry experience and lost. The CEO paid the price, but the bloated senior staff remains and are driving the ship in every direction but the right direction.

With some of the recent back stabbing and bold face lies told by the executives it can feel like a real life version of Spy Vs Spy, hopefully you can pick the right door.

The company has accumulated years of technical debt by not dedicating enough resources to almost every project and when it fails always think the solution is to just describe the product differently and push harder on the sales.

The company has joined the list of companies expanding to Ireland for all the wrong reasons and saying it's so they can satisfy the EU data laws.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit playing games and protecting your undeserved bloated salaries at the expense of your employees.

    Pros

I work in the TRC and it has the best work/life balance I've ever experienced. You get trusted to work with minimal supervision early on, however those that consistently seem to make errors or "don't get it" probably don't feel this way since they also consistently need to be double checked. If you have learned all that you want to learn you'll get to a point to where you can work your 8 hours and more or less coast on auto pilot. Leadership opportunities appear quick relative to other companies because of the need to hire quickly.. The lack of computer science graduates with application security or any security background means that 95% of people that start out are on a more or less level playing field with their peers as far as "what they knew" coming into the industry. This means that those that are more driven to push themselves seem to rise faster up the career ladder. The culture and atmosphere is really relaxed and I typically enjoy going into work.

    Cons

Starting salary is low but opportunities arise to increase it if you stand out as a leader or as a skilled engineer and are passionate about the work you do. Some people put a negative taste in culture about being underpaid, but I think they think they are more valuable than they really are since they seem to think they deserve 6 figures for being XSS hunters or recognizing error based SQL Injection(most look dumbfounded when put on the spot to exploit it). Others however are extremely skilled and inevitably leave for more established security companies that offer a larger bankroll. A few people play games or cause distractions excessively, but it's not something headphones can't let you drown out. Manager has left the Houston office to fend for itself sadly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage more anonymous feedback so that the real issues that bother people are heard.
