I have been working at Whitney Museum

Pros

The Whitney is a great place for exposure to contemporary art. It consists of a staff of experienced and dedicated people with a real passion for the work they do.

Cons

The Whitney is a non-profit institution so that often means there is a limitations in resources. Often, the staff has to be creative in solutions to problems.

I worked at Whitney Museum as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The people are great - my team was warm, inviting, and helpful. My internship was unpaid, but some of the benefits were definitely appealing. You get to go to exhibit openings and meet people I would probably never had the chance to otherwise. I learned a lot and gained plenty of valuable experience.

    Cons

It's unpaid, which is difficult since the Whitney is in New York City. Also, office culture can be a bit cliquey at times. Can sometimes be a bit of a stressful environment, especially closer to exhibit openings and exhibits with high popularity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I don't know if this will ever change, but providing some sort of compensation besides a monthly subway card would make the intern program much easier to handle, especially in terms of finances.
