I have been working at Whole Foods Market

Pros

It's cool to be part of good food and a company that does a good job giving back. There is allot of job security and the benefits are great. 20% discount on almost any products in the store, a great medical plan that can include dental and vision for $10 and $5 a month respectively.

Cons

Nothing out of the ordinary except we draw a very needy clientele. Think customer service at its worst. Not all of the customers are like this but it's disproportionate compared to other places I have worked.

Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hard to say. They do a good job. More in-touch then some other places.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market

    Pros

Freedom to make choices, good pay, benefits and great hours.

    Cons

Still a corporate environment with all the inherent problems, such as being tied by HR when counseling non-performing staff.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Watch out for favoritism, it sours the workers.

I have been working at Whole Foods Market

    Pros

Before the economic crisis, the atmosphere was very exciting and enjoyable to work in. There are lots of opportunities to learn different skills, you can take on as much responsibility as you want. The employee discount is awesome. The employees come from a variety of backgrounds and you learn just as much from each other as you do from the customers. The store celebrates diversity. Management listens to ideas and usually always gives them consideration. Management tries very hard to work around personal schedules for people in school or people who hold multiple jobs. Management holds job dialogues with each employee about every 6 months to discuss where improvement could be made and any problems you may personally be having. It is nice to be able to sit down with management and discuss things so openly.

    Cons

Lately there has been a lot of animosity towards management. Management is cutting everyone's hours and giving themselves overtime. On occasion management will put out or serve food that in my opinion should just be composted. At times there is a lot of disconnect between managers which makes it frustrating for employees. Managers disagree on how things should be done and it is the employee who ends up in trouble for obeying one managers wishes only to be reprimanded by another manager who sees the situation differently. There is also a large amount a favoritism by management. Management can make things very difficult for people who are not favorites among management. Since they have been cutting jobs they have been piling more work onto less people. They have not been compensating people for the additional work they are now required to do in response to the many people they have laid off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees should have some influence in the hiring process of management. Bad management ruins team moral and destroys the atmosphere created by the core values.
